It's a snowy and windy Sunday here in Cincinnati today.. a good day for catching up on blogs. :-)
Nice to see you guys out here in the blogsphere! I was waiting for you MSFT mobile types. ;-)
Oh yeah.. My trip to Chicago last week (flew in on Monday night, out Tuesday night).. I flew in to Midway. As I'm heading out of the airport to the L.. and at several of the L stations.. a mass amount of Windows Mobile ads. awesome!
Speaking of.. I'm shopping for a new Pocket PC. I've decided that yes, Virgina, there are just some things that don't work too swell on a Smartphone (or at all - e.g. SQL CE). I'm looking heavily at the h4150 and h4350 iPAQs. The new Toshiba that can do VGA resolution is nice, but it's been my experience (and that of others), that when it comes to support (i.e. firmware updates/fixes) or OS updates (i.e. Pocket PC 2002 -> Windows Mobile 2003) upgrades, Toshiba can leave you empty-handed (hp certainly isn't perfect..).

30 ..heh.. my wife's 30th birthday is tomorrow; what does she want? A fish. Go figure.
- AppForge has released Crossfire. Interesting. It's on my to-do list for this weekend to take a good look at this.
- msmobiles.com reports that Handango introduces some new categories. I concur, a bit confusing.
- Peter Foot has released a nifty sample that illustrates accessing the Vibrate API from NETCF. You want to look up the Vibrate API yourself? Got the Smartphone 2003 SDK installed? Look here: \Windows CE Tools\wce420\SMARTPHONE 2003\Help\tpcsdkr.chm Smartphone API Reference -> Vibrate API
- Microsoft reports increased revenue from mobility. Yeah! via Smartphonethoughts.com
- The guys over at Ars Technica have an article about WiMax (802.16) and Intel's intent to play hardball in this space.
- Microsoft has just released a new article detailing P/Invoke details for common things like Power Status, SIP, and Perf counters.
- Found another mobile site today: MobileWhack they even have RSS
- BlogJet. I like it a lot; I've been using this for a several days now. I'll be buying this one.. BlogJet & FeedDemon. w00t! Check it out if you haven't yet (yeah it's a bit rough right now, but not bad for a beta)
- OpenNETCF.org SDF (Smart Device Framework). I was accepted in to the beta program in December (Thank you, OpenNETCF-ers!), but haven't been able to do as much with this as I would have liked until lately. Very cool stuff here; the farther I dive into it, the more I like. I'm going to have to write a review of this sometime. I don't know if they're still taking applications for the beta program, but you can go to http://beta.opennetcf.org to apply.
I had to do a technical interview for work today, and I was surprised that, like all other tech interviews I've given, I get a butterfly or two right before. You'd think that after giving quite a few, I wouldn't be the slightest bit nervous..oh, well. (and don't listen to James or any of my other cohorts from Cincinnati who tell stories about my tech interviews.. lies! all of them.)
And lastly.. comment spam... or is it.. (check the last two comments) Update: 2004/01/30 I decided to remove these two comments.

The folks at Smartphone.net have posted what is alleged to be a confirmation that T-Mobile USA (who happens to be my wireless carrier) will be launching the Motorola MPx220 Smarthphone in March 2004. swell. Look here as well. Looks to have some nifty features ... mini-USB, anyone?
RANT (based on PPT screen cap from aforementioned link):
What the hell was Motorola thinking?!?! An external antenna? An external antenna!?!?! Please. Who wants an antenna sticking out of their phone? (note: yours truly did have two phones in the past that did have antennas - and he didn't like them) One of the best features of my SPV E200 is the lack of an antenna. No half-inch (or more) protrusion on my phone fouling things up in my pocket (or more often - when I was removing the phone from my pocket for use). Bah!!! ...and for what it's worth, my prior phone, a Motorola P280 did have an antenna, and has reception that is inferior to my non-antenna having E200.

My migration over here has caught the attention of one Mr. Scoble. Cool. Although, I think that James (who I happen to work with) and Julia both moved their blogs off of weblogs.asp.net before I did (note: Julia still cross-posts)
Now then, I agree with Scoble that decentralized communities are the way.
