Installing VMWare Tools on an Ubuntu Linux Guest

I was preparing a new virtual machine this weekend and ran into some troubles getting VMWare Tools installed (I repeatedly received errors about the vmhgfs module) . 2.3.1.7. Visual Studio 2008 does not recognize Windows Mobile 6 SDK when the SDK is already installed.
