Installing VMWare Tools on an Ubuntu Linux Guest

I was preparing a new virtual machine this weekend and ran into some troubles getting VMWare Tools installed (I repeatedly received errors about the vmhgfs module) . VS2008 Smart Device Development ReadMe items

2.3.1.7. Visual Studio 2008 does not recognize Windows Mobile 6 SDK when the SDK is already installed. Single-blog setup in CS2007 with a dash of URL rewriting on top

Missing VS2005 Item Templates (er, most of 'em)

While at the Day of .NET, I discovered that I had an issue - my item templates were missing from Visual Studio (except for the PowerShell templates ) . Interesting (and damned frustrating, too).
