Installing VMWare Tools on an Ubuntu Linux Guest
Sunday, March 16, 2008 10:46 PM
I was preparing a new virtual machine this weekend and ran into some troubles getting VMWare Tools installed (I repeatedly received errors about the vmhgfs module) . I am using VMWare Workstation 6.0.2, and the guest OS was Ubuntu Linux 7.10. After quite a bit of futzing about, I turned to the Ubuntu Forums , where I found this gem of a thread . A bit frustrating... Read More...

2.3.1.7. Visual Studio 2008 does not recognize Windows Mobile 6 SDK when the SDK is already installed. If a user installs Visual Studio 2008 on a computer that already has Windows Mobile 6 SDK, Visual Studio 2008 will not recognize the SDK. Repairing Windows Mobile 6 SDK will not solve this. To resolve this issue: 1. Uninstall Windows Mobile 6 SDK. 2. Reinstall... Read More...
TryParse WTF
Friday, November 16, 2007 12:20 PM
I came across this piece of code today and, while not WTF worthy, it still summoned a sigh of sadness from me, and I thought I would share. Apparantly, the author's understanding of DateTime.TryParse() was not correct. Enjoy. Happy Friday. if ( DateTime .TryParse(m_dateChooser.Text, out dt) == true ) { return dt; } else { return DateTime .MinValue; } Share this... Read More...

Missing VS2005 Item Templates (er, most of 'em)
Thursday, May 10, 2007 1:36 AM
While at the Day of .NET, I discovered that I had an issue - my item templates were missing from Visual Studio (except for the PowerShell templates ) . Interesting (and damned frustrating, too). The first thing I did was shut down all devenv.exe, launch a VS command prompt and run devenv /installvstemplates . Upon completion, I launch devenv to only be disappointed... Read More...
