My fellow Ohioans:
We have some potentially precedent-setting issues in regards to our election laws on the state ballot on November 8, 2005. I encourage you become informed about them prior to stepping into the voting booth. Here are some quick summaries (taken from an article (I encourage reading of this article) in The Cincinnati Enquirer). The Enquirer article also has a quick for/against summary for each issue that helps to simply the sometimes dry/difficult official language. Each issue heading below links to the official verbiage on the Ohio SOS Election site. There is also an Issue 1 on the ballot, but that is not related to the election law changes. The polls will be open from 6:30am to 7:30 pm on election day.
Issue 2:
Allow any registered voter to cast an absentee ballot by mail or in person at the county boards of elections anytime in the 35 days leading up to an election
Issue 3:
Lower the contribution limits from individuals to $1,000 to a state legislative candidate or county political party, $2,000 to a candidate for statewide executive office, and $5,000 to state or national political parties. Corporate contributions to political parties would be banned.
Issue4:
Legislative districts would be drawn by a five-member commission, two of whom would be appointed by sitting judges from each major political party. The rest would be chosen by the first two, or chosen by lot
Issue5:
Eliminate the secretary of state's duty to administer elections and place that responsibility in the hands of a nine-member non-partisan commission - four to be named by the governor, four to be named by members of the Legislature who are not of the same political party as the governor, and one by unanimous vote of the Ohio Supreme Court. The board would hire an administrator to do the day-to-day work of supervising elections. Bipartisan county boards of elections would continue to do their work

After using an HTC Apache for two weeks, I became very dependant on the Windows and OK hardware buttons (on the front) and now miss them on my Qtek 9100 (oh yeah, I got my 9100 Monday morning - more later). This is an issue that is easily remedied.
Go to Start > Settings (Personal tab) > Buttons
I picked Button 5 to remap. Select the button you wish to re-map, assign a program (<OK/Close> in this case), tap OK. Done. Easy-squeezy! :-)

I've been busy lately (and doing a bit of traveling (MSP, ORD, and now SEA[1]) in support of my busy-ing activities) hence the lack of updates, but I'm all caught up with updates (now just to catch up on my design docs after being allocated elsewhere for two weeks..heh. almost there). I still have a gajillion and one blog entries showing in FeedDemon, but I managed to get through my Mobility, Mobile Developers, and Avanade Bloggers groups (priorities!). Celltrack (on my blog web page) doesn't seem to be picking things up quite correctly, but I'm in Seattle this week (for some design review meetings). Oh yeah, I pulled the trigger on a K-Jam (there go my H1 EBs).. so I should be seeing that next week some time. :-)

I'm in the "Land of 10,000 lakes" this week on a 'special assignment' and it is has been quite the interesting week so far. Tuesday started with a diverted flight and ended with dinner during a nasty storm and a loss of electrical power. As my flight neared the airport, a line of storms arose and the plane did not have enough fuel to hold a pattern, so we were diverted north to Duluth (saw some beautiful foliage on the approach, btw) and ended up on the ground there for over two hours, so I had some time to make some new friends :-). Oh, and no GPRS service from T-Mobile there, just voice (GSM). I also need to remember to pack a jacket this time of year; the weather seems to have changed a bit from what was predicted when I packed my bag Monday night.
At the end of the day Tuesday, my co-worker DaveG took me to a really cool place for dinner - Chino Latino. What a great place! I really liked this place and it had a great atmosphere as well. I will definitely look this place up again if I am back in the area. While we were waiting on dessert, the power went out, which made things interesting. Unforunately, Dave couldn't get his fried ice cream, but I did get my chocolate flan-dango thing (awesome!), which I shared.
Wednesday was a long but productive day and I got a majority of my goals accomplished (woohoo!). I found that if I don't wait for VMWare (where I'm running VS2005 RC) to fully disconnect the USB connection for the device before I pull the cable, it is *not* happy (I got the BSOD on my Toshiba M3 twice this way).
I'm working with HTC Apache devices and I must say - very nifty (I'm looking to pick up an HTC Wizard for myself given that I'm on T-Mobile). I'll have some more technical blog entries later this week (or weekend) about some issues I've encountered. I'm on a really tight schedule this week, so TMM will likely be suspended as well until the weekend.
Oh yeah.. the whole "stoplights on Interstate on-ramps" thing is...interesting.
