The Mobile Minute 96

What a gorgeous day it was here in the greater Queen City area, and of course, I was inside all day. :-/   I have been working with SharePoint Portal Server 2003 web services this week… interesting-ish.  Nonetheless, the end-product of my manipulations should be a cool and interesting prototype.  I think I will be able to blog about it, too. 

Oh.. I installed MSN Desktop Search on my desktop and my laptop today. I’m reserving final opinion until the indexing is complete and I can do some searching; however, I will give an initial +1 vote since I can install as administrator and then run as myself (non-admin) with no issues, unlike Google Desktop.

Software / Hardware 

• MobileBurn has a nice piece on Nokia’s new 770 Internet Tablet.  Somehow I think that this may fare better than the Microsoft Smart Display (codename ‘Mira’).   I think the price point on the Smart Display was just insane - and it’s downfall.
• Clinton Finch is keeping track of ODMs who have committed to Windows Mobile 5.0 upgrades
• From Engadget comes some spiffy photos of Samsung’s i730
• Microsoft releases Windows Embedded for Point of Service
• Resco has just released the MobileSales Sample Project a, yes, SFA sample.  Interesting.

 Development

• David Kline talks about the new Exception.StackTrace in .NET CF v2   Thank you NETCF team – we loves the StackTrace
• OpenNETCF.org has released v1.3 of their Bluetooth library  Also, if you have SDF v1.3, be certain to get this updated machine.config
• David Kline gives us insight into enabling attached to process support in .NET CF v2
• The Windows CE Networking Team talks to us about not calling services.exe
• Check out Part 1 and Part 2 of a set on subclassing controls in .NET CF 2.0
• The WindowsMobile Team gives an oh-so-handy Migration FAQ for Windows Mobile 5.0.  Given that I now have a particular fondness for creating installation CABS, this item caught my attention.  Read the entire FAQ– very important stuff!
• Sue Loh drops some kick-ass posts on the Remote Kernel Tracker[Intro] and more RKT  Spiffy!!!
